The Code for.... what?

Image
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read and review Jillian Cantor's new novel, The Code for Love and Heartbreak set to release on October 6th! This book has been advertised as a modern re-telling of Jane Austen's Emma , which I have never read and know nothing about. But if it's similar to what this book presented, then well, sign me up! This book was actually adorable and I loved every second of it! Even if our main character, you guessed it, Emma, was a little ignorant for 75% of the book. The Code for Love and Heartbreak  takes place during Emma and George's senior year of high school. The two of them are total nerds and are co-presidents of the coding club and every year they have to come up with an app idea to present at a statewide competition to try and win to move on to nationals. Emma comes up with the idea for a matchmaking app that matches students up based on science and numbers. (After all, she loves numbers and numbers never lie). But when some thin...

Reality TV Meets YA

Guys, I just finished the most DELICIOUS book! One to Watch has become a book that is on many individual's most wanted list, and has gotten raving reviews. I, of course, picked up the BOTM version of this story due to the hype and I was so glad that I did. This book was... addictive! I am not a fan of the Bachelor, but this book is basically that show in a novel. It is full of drama, fake relationships, and more drama. It is SO good. Each chapter is labeled as one of the episodes, which I thought was a fun twist! And, there are little pieces of media in the chapters such as text messages, blog posts, podcasts, and e-mails. It's easy to follow and is inserted in a way that makes sense and allows the book to continue to flow, without the interruption of social media format to distract you.  This book also deals with some heavy, and important topics such as sexual harassment, cyber-bullying, body-image, cheating, asexuality, and body positivity  and the author DELIVERS (and...

Thoughts & Prayers by Bryan Bliss: A Review

Image
Hi Friends!  I am back with another NetGalley E-ARC! Thoughts & Prayers  by Bryan Bliss is a three-part novel that comes out at the end of September. This story follows three characters, Eleanor, Brendan and Claire a year after they survived a shooting at their high school and hid under a stairwell together.  I wanted this book to be so much more than it was. The topic was handled very well, as it is an emotional and delicate topic, but it felt like I was reading three different short stories, with no connection, and with nothing really happening. Each part seemed to deal with a different type of diagnosis in how they handled their grief. For example, we see PTSD in Claire, anger and resentment in Eleanor, and OCD in Brendan.  The first part follows our character Claire, who moved to Minnesota with her brother, who is a pro-skater, after the shooting. We follow her as she is processing the trauma and meets a group of guys at the skate park who befriend her and on...

August Wrap-Up!

Image
Hi friends!  Alas.. summer is finally coming to an end and the best season ever (fall) is about to begin! Yes, September 1st to me means fall even if fall doesn't "officially" start until later in the month. I am already packing away my summer clothes and getting out my sweaters and fall decorations! August overall was an okay reading month. I did have a large majority of 5-star reads, but I found myself not wanting to read as much as usual this month. I am going on month six of working from home, and I think it is starting to really hit me and make me almost.. bored of reading (dare I say). I also had a lot of personal stuff going on in August, which I think also contributed to my slower pace this past month.  Overall I read a total of 16 books (3 E-books and 13 physical books) STATS: Pages: 4.741 3-star reads: 5 4-start reads: 2 5-star reads: 5 Favorites: 4 Shortest book: Avengers Assembly: Orientation (176 pages) Longest book: Midnight Sun (658 pages) GENRE BREAKDOWN: ...

The Wife: A Review

Image
Hi friends! Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review The Wife  by Shalini Boland prior to it's September release date.  I swear, there has got to be so many thrillers with the word wife in the title. That seems to be a popular trope among mystery and thriller writers.  This book was... predictable. We start off with our main character, Zoe's, wedding day to her husband Toby when she faints and loses her memory of what happened leading up to her "accident." We jump between then and now (10 years later) as Zoe struggles to remember her special day and desperately continues to search for her missing sister Dina. However, things are not always what they seem. I feel like the crazy mother-in-law trope is overdone in the thriller genre. This book fell right into that trope. I won't tell you why she's crazy, because spoilers, but you'll soon find out. I was intrigued by this book (it's only 292 pages) and quickly entranced. As the story went on t...

The Return of Twilight?

Image
Hi Friends!! I am most certainly not the only Twilight fan who grew up with the series when the books were released, and then the movies, gushing over how gorgeous the Cullen family was. So when I heard about a new Twilight book coming out, the middle-schooler in me was ECSTATIC. I simply could not wait to get my hands on it... until I realized that it was over 600 pages.  Midnight Sun is the version of Twilight, that we know in and love, but in the POV of Edward. This allows us to get a look into Edward's mind and why he's a dick 95% of the time. It also allows us to be able to learn the back stories of each of the Cullens pre-vampire. (Did anyone else re-watch Twilight and release today how BAD the acting was?)  I don't even know where to start with this review.  If you're looking for a new installment of the series, do not read this book. This is essentially the retelling of the first story, but from Edward's perspective. I was going to re-read the books prior t...

Save Steve: A Review

Hi Friends! Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to review an early copy of Save Steve by Jenni Hendricks and Ted Caplan before it's September 1st release date! This book was SO fun and full of antics, making me love every second of it!      Save Steve  follows our main characters Kaia and Cam, who are best friend's and advocates on a mission to change the world. One day, Cam goes to the popular kid (Steve)'s party and gets himself into some trouble with Steve and finds out that the girl he has been crushing on (Kaia) is dating Steve, who he hates. He then finds out that Steve has Cancer and is thrust into campaigning Save Steve, to help raise funds for his family to pay medical bills due to the Cancer. A lot of crazy antics and pranks come from that.       First off, I loved how Steve loved Cardi B and she was in so many scenes in this book because I love her and she's my Queen.       Secondly, I loved reading about ...
